ATA World Magazine

If you haven’t seen yet, our Green Team was featured in the fall issue of ATA World Magazine. If you haven’t gotten yours, be sure to ask at the front counter for your copy. Check out page 22 for the full story and page 56 with “Words to Live By” from me, Mr. Pederson.

Our newest and most recent goal as a Green Team was to go two weeks with only drinking water and no other beverages. The money saved from not drinking soda, tea, coffee, juice, etc., will go to the WaterProject.org to help build a well in Africa. Tonight everyone is turning in their money, so I’ll post soon on how much money we saved, so check back soon. Way to go everyone!

Green Actions for Julie Sueker

At work:
I avoid printing documents at work, but print double sided when I do have to print something.
I recycle all old work documents and discarded mail items.
I use reusable silverware and ceramic plates and cups.
I bring my lunch to work in reusable ziplock containers instead of going out for lunch. This reduces driving and generation of additional waste from take-out containers.
I use limited task lighting at work and don’t use the overhead lights.
I use the screen on my laptop instead of a flat screen monitor because the laptop screen requires less energy (I checked).
I allow my hands to air dry to limit use of paper towels.
Installation of a photovoltaic solar system on my house

At home:
We have planted xeric (low water) plants and low water consumption lawns to reduce water use in the yard.
We have a vegetable garden and grow some of my own food. What we cannot eat while fresh is canned or shared with friends and neighbors.
We have included plants in my yard that provide food for butterflies, hummingbirds, and honey bees.
We recycle vegetable food wastes by composting and yard waste by using as mulch around plantings.
We recycle cans, bottles, newspapers, magazines, and catalogs.
We turn off lights when I leave a room.
We replaced many incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs both inside and out.
We use earth friendly soaps, detergents, and cleaning supplies.
We use canvas grocery bags.

We would like to thank everybody who came to support our school in going Green.
